They are not flexible, nor am I. Either obey them or you are history. Is that clear?</p>
<p>Ok so rules of engagement in social media might not be quite as dire as all that but I ran across a link to this chart when I was reading <a href="http://kdpaine.blogs.com/kdpaines_pr_m/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/kdpaine.blogs.com/kdpaines_pr_m/?referer=');">KD Paine&#8217;s blog </a>today (doing some research on measuring PR and social media &#8211; what else?)  and thought it illustrated the process extremely well. Definitely worth sharing:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeremiah_owyang/3154057414/sizes/o/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/jeremiah_owyang/3154057414/sizes/o/?referer=');"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-237" title="air force blog rules" src="http://katie.heyvan.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/3154057414_f797f3fc16_o.jpg" alt="air force blog rules" width="736" height="1110" /></a></p>
<p>KD Paine got this chart from <a href="http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/2008/12/31/diagram-how-the-air-force-response-to-blogs/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.web-strategist.com/blog/2008/12/31/diagram-how-the-air-force-response-to-blogs/?referer=');">Jeremiah Owyang </a>who got it from <a href="http://www.globalnerdy.com/2008/12/30/the-air-forces-rules-of-engagement-for-blogging/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.globalnerdy.com/2008/12/30/the-air-forces-rules-of-engagement-for-blogging/?referer=');">Joey Devilla </a>who found out about it from <a href="http://www.webinknow.com/2008/12/the-us-air-force-armed-with-social-media.html" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.webinknow.com/2008/12/the-us-air-force-armed-with-social-media.html?referer=');">David Meerman Scott </a>- so I&#8217;m relying on that chain as to its authenticity, but authentic or not it&#8217;s a great way to visualize the correct way to respond to a blog post about your brand.</p>
<p>Pass it on.</p>
